As part of their Literacy work, pupils in Year 5 have been writing non-chronolgical reports about children's authors.

Modern day children's authors

This is a report about Modern day children's writers. Both of these authors write horror fiction.

Mary Hooper

Mary was born in South West London. She now lives in Hampshire, in a little old cottage.

It wasn't until she was about forty that she went to University part-time and got her degree. Here she learned to type and started writing short stories and from there she went on to write serials for teenage magazines, and lots of Readers' True Stories, and even an astrology column.

Mary's hobbies are pottering around the cottage, painting walls and furniture, moving things around, and making wreaths and other bits and pieces with dried flowers. But her favourite hobby is being noisy!

Mary now writes children's horror books and her most famous to date is The Haunted House, others include; Plague house, Horror house and Witch house.

Anthony Horrowitz

Anthony was born in London in 1955 and was sent to a boarding school in Harrow. He now lives in Middlesex.

He decided he wanted to be a writer when he was eight and wrote his first book when he was twenty-three. He has written lots of books, including the Alex Rider series, Scorpia, Ark Angel and Skelton Key.

Jacqueline Wilson

Jacqueline Wilson was born in Bath. She is now 61 years old and has been writing all her adult life.

She wrote her first book when she was only nine. Jacqueline Wilson wrote throughout her school days but she didn't get her first story published until she was 17 which she thought was ages.

Jacqueline Wilson always makes up her own characters in her head.

Millions of copies of her books have been sold in the UK alone. Jacqueline Wilson was voted English children's favourite author, she has won many awards for her books Girls out late.

Her book Tracy Beaker has been made into a television series.
