Year 2 have been learning about life in Africa.
As part of this topic the children have been learning about why our eyes are important and what it must be like not to be able to see. We looked at the different parts of the eye and how our eyes work. We also looked at some of the problems people can face obtaining spectacles in many African countries.
To highlight these problems the children prepared an assembly and some of the children took on the roles of different characters to describe how their lives are affected by various eye conditions.
The children encouraged friends and family to recycle any spare glasses to send to Vision Aid, a charity which focuses on sight problems in less economically developed countries.
We finished our topic with a party and the children sampled a variety of African foods.
