Echidna

Echidna: A monstrous scaly serpent woman, half speckled snake and half lady with long hair. With the aid of Typhon, she became part of the Greek horror stories. Her parents were Ceto and Phorcys.

Echidna lived with Typhon in Asia. She lurked in a cave, only coming out to snatch up and eat those passing. The critter was ageless but not immortal. Zeus was quite pleased with Echidna because she was strong. He enjoyed watching a good fight. He often let the nastiest survive to the next round.

Echidna was eventually killed by Argus, the hundred-eyed security guard, who only ventured to undertake such a task when she was asleep.

She owned the dog of the under world: Cerberus, the Hydra, Chimera, the Sphinx as well as the eagle that ate Prometheus’ liver every day.

She once stole the horses of Heracles, and would not return them until he gave in to her demands. She gave birth to triplets Agathyrsus, Gelanus and Scythes were born. The latter became the king of the Scythians.

Echidna is possibly best known as being the mother of many monsters. Echidna was a monster that played an intriguing part in Greek mythology. And this creature earned her legendary reputation as an important mythic monster for two main reasons. The first was due to her striking appearance, for Echidna was commonly portrayed as an odd and unsettling mixture of a beautiful woman and deadly serpent. The second reason that Echidna is significant in myth comes from the tradition that she was the mother to a motley assortment of monsters.

Hippogriff

Hippogriffs are birds with the head, wings and forelegs of a Griffin. They have also got the body, hind legs and tail of a horse.

These beasts can be found worldwide but are mostly found in Europe. Experts can tame them but they can be quite dangerous if they want to. When you approach the hippogriff you must make eye contact with it and you must bow before it. If it bows back it is alright to come further. Hippogriffs like to eat insects, small animals and birds including ferrets .

When they hatch eggs they will break open within a day. The baby hippogriffs can fly within a week but it could be months before they fly on long journeys.
