A poem about London

Down in London, down, down in the streets
There's a great big wheel, waiting for us to meet.
Up in the wheel, up, up high
You can see London far and wide
Down, down near the river where the boats go by.
Up, up in the tower the ravens cry.
In the planetarium you look at beautiful stars.
Go to Madam Tussauds and see the real movie stars.
Buckingham Palace the home of the Queen
Walking her corgies, sometimes can be seen.
The whispering, whispering walls of ST Paul's.
The GRANDEST cathedral of them all.
Ohh! The Houses of Parliament.
Where the M.P's sort out the rent.
Then there's Ben, Big, Big Ben,
Listen to his chimes when he strikes at 10…
Oh London, Oh London the capital city,
Take a good look around, it's wonderfully pretty…

AWESOME
AN ACROSTIC POEM ABOUT LONDON

London is the Capital city of England.
Orchestra of the Lion King.
Never thought it would be so good.
Downing Street seems to be a nice place to live.
Oh, what a wonderful place London is.
Never wanted to go home.

The London Eye

The London Eye takes you up in the sky
Soaring like a butterfly,
All of London comes in to view
Especially seeing Waterloo.
People come to look quite small
But really they are very tall,
It really came to be so great
Especially seeing Traitors gate
I really hope to go again
To see London once again.

The London Eye
High, high in the sky,
We are on the London Eye.

In the London Eye it's a beautiful sight,
It goes round and round day and night.

The London Eye, the London Eye,
The best part of London is
The London Eye.

Dear Diary
As soon as I got to London I went to a Planetarium to see about space and all the planets. I was sat with my group, when I looked up at the ceiling there were patterns, before the show came on.
Straight after that we went to Madame Tussauds and I saw Peggy Mitchell, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Tom Jones, Geri Haliwell, David Beckham, Sven Goran Eriksson, Michael Jackson and the Queen, and lots more. It was very amazing because they looked so real.
Just after, we went to the Chamber of Horrors and it was TERRIFYING. It showed people having their heads chopped off and criminals from the olden days. After that we went to Buckingham Palace and I couldn't believe my eyes as I had seen the real thing. I took loads of pictures of it.

At night at 6.00pm we had our tea and after that I rang my mum and she was so pleased to hear from me. Later that night I rang her again. Straight after we were ready to go to the Lion King, when we got there it was mad packed with people, we could hardly get in it, it was so busy. Finally we got in and we sat on the 1st and 2nd row. When the show started the animals came on, I couldn't believe how real they looked and how fantastic the costumes were. The show was BRILLIANT!

My Trip to London
Firstly we went to the Planetarium, we went in and sat down and looked up at the sky. In the sky it showed space and the planets and explosions, it was brilliant! Next we went to Madam Tussauds to look at wax dolls of famous people. Then we went to the Chamber of Horrors. We went on a ride, it showed all the ways that people were killed like the axe, the wheel or spike and the 'chop off head' tactic. After the ride we went for a walk in St James' Park then back to the hostel to have tea and get ready to go to see the Lion King.

At the Lion King it showed an animal kingdom, it had an elephant made out of wood coming down the aisle onto the stage. The costumes and scenery were fantastic. After that we went back to the hostel and went to sleep. My favourite bit of that day was the Planetarium.

When I got up the next day we went straight to the Houses of Parliament. We saw pictures of the kings, then we went for a tour around the Houses of Parliament.

After that we went to have lunch and then went on a boat trip to the Tower of London.

At the Tower we saw the Crown Jewels and the biggest diamonds in the world!!!!!!!!!!!! We went to the Bloody Tower where two princes were murdered.

When we left we went to the Imax Cinema to see space station (the Imax screen is the biggest in Britain). We saw a 3D film on space and the narrator was Tom Cruise.

When we went back to the hostel we went to sleep. My favourite thing of that day was the Imax Cinema. The next day we went straight to St. Paul's Cathedral. We went nearly to the top but it was too slippy on the roof. Next we went to the London Eye, it's massive and takes half an hour to go round. I could see all of London from the top. On the way down we got our picture taken and then it was time to go home. I really enjoyed my holiday in London, I had a brilliant time!

My Trip to London

London was a fantastic trip
The best one in my life,
Madame Tussauds was the best
The celebrities looked alive.

The Lion king was so extraordinary
The animals were so clever,
The show lasted so long
It seemed like it went on forever.

The London eye was very high
You could see everyone's smiles
You could even see the field around London
You could see for miles and miles.

A Diary of the London Visit:

Wednesday 16th October 2002.
We arrived at school at 5:45am, we set off at 6:15am, and the journey seemed to take forever. We got there around 12:00 in the afternoon. Firstly we met our guide Susanne, outside the Planetarium and she took us inside. It was AMAZING!!! It felt like you were flying into space. Then Susanne took us to Madame Tussauds. They looked so real, especially Sven Goran Ericson. (My favourite part was the Dungeon of Horrors and the Spirit of London.) After we had been to Madame Tussauds we went to the hostel for the first time! When we had got changed we went to see Disney's Lion King at the Lyceum Theatre. We arrived back at the hostel at 10:30 and went straight to our rooms. Got to go diary! (I'm tired!)

Thursday 17th October 2002.
We left the hostel at 9:00am, firstly we had a walking tour around London, and then we went on a boat trip to the Tower of London it was Exciting!!! When we got to the Tower of London, we went to see the ravens. (They say if the ravens leave - the tower will fall!!) After we had got changed and had our dinner we went to see Space Station at the Imax Cinema. It was very exciting. At 9:30pm we got back to the hostel and shared Martin's birthday cake out. Then we went to bed.
Got to go! (AGAIN!!)

Friday 18th October 2002 (Last day in London)
When we left the hostel we loaded our bags onto the coach. Then we met our guide at South Kensington. Firstly we went to see Saint Pauls Cathedral (the Whispering Gallery) it was brilliant! Then we went to see the Natural History Museum, dinosaurs were the best!! The London Eye was next; we've got a poem for you:
The London Eye,
Is so high,
You can watch the clouds fly by.
The people look like their dancing,
Though they're really glancing
Up at the London Eye!
 - That's our poem!
After we had been on the London Eye, it was time to go home, sadly our trip was over!!

Our Visit to the Houses of Parliament

In October 2002, children from Our Lady of Mount Carmel School were delighted to visit the Houses of Parliament where Mr David Heyes, the Ashton Member of Parliament, met us.

We went in through the main entrance and were met by our tour guides. We were first taken into the Queen's robing room, which led us into the banqueting room, the walls of which were covered in portraits of past kings and queens of England. We went into the House of Lords and were surprised to find that it had been designed and built by Pugin, the famous architect (he also designed St.Ann's Church in Ashton).

In the middle of the House we saw the red woolsack, which traditionally represents the Lord Chancellor's position. All the seats are covered in red leather - those in the House of Commons are green. At 11o'clock we saw the speakers procession. The whole house went quiet as a voice shouted "Speaker, Speaker". A number of people walked in procession towards the lower house. They were all men dressed in black and white clothes, and the leader carried a large golden mace. We watched them disappear, into the Prime Minister's Question Time.

Dear Susanne,
Thank-you for being a guide for us around London and telling us a bit about everything we saw. It was really interesting because I learned a lot. When we went over the Tower Bridge, I was scared because I thought it was going to open on us.

My favourite trip was the one to the Planetarium because it moved round in circles, and it looked like the stars were falling on us. My second most favourite place was the Waxworks because the figures looked so real. Danielle and I had our picture taken behind the Beatles by Mrs McDermott. My favourite waxwork theme was the garden party; it had James Bond and Graham Norton, and it was brilliant. In the Chamber of Horrors I could even smell the evil around; it was very scary but I enjoyed it. When Danielle and I went on the London Eye at first we were scared, but then we liked it.

Thanks again and hope to see you soon,

From Ruby W. and Danielle H. y6
