National Schools Sport Week 2011  (page 1)

The week starting Monday 28th June was the 2011 "National Sports and Healthy School Week" and at Our Lady of Mount Carmel we celebrated with our own "Mini-Olympics"!

The week started with a very grand opening ceremony, where each class represented a country in costume and, with flags, paraded around the playground to that country's national anthem.

There was an excellent attendance of parents, Councillors Yvonne Cartey, Margaret Sidebottom and Bill Fairfoull; Sue Whiteside from Lloyds TSB; Emma (Partnership Development Manager) ; Laura (Competitions Manager) Tameside School Sport Partnership; Jeff and Gavin (sports coaches).

The classes then performed a dance from each of the represented countries.

The week commenced in style with our Opening Ceremony.

The Olympiads paraded into the playground with their classmates, each class dressed in national costume and representing a different country. They marched round to their rousing national anthem. The classes then performed a dance from each of the represented countries.

The countries were represented as follows:
 •   Nursery - England
 •   Reception - U.S.A.
 •   Year 1 - Russia
 •   Year 2 - Greece
 •   Year 3 - Spain
 •   Year 4 - India
 •   Year 5 - Brazil
 •   Year 6 - U.S.A.
