National Schools Sports Week 2010  (page 1)

The week starting Monday 28th June was the 2010 "National Sports and Healthy School Week" and at Our Lady of Mount Carmel we celebrated with our own "Mini-Olympics"!

The week started with a very grand opening ceremony, where each class represented a country in costume and, with flags, paraded around the playground to that country's national anthem.

There was an excellent attendance of parents, councillors William Harrison, Margaret Sidebottom and Bill Fairfoull, past pupils from St Damians, sports coaches and school sports partnership.

The classes then performed a dance from each of the represented countries.

The week commenced in style with our Opening Ceremony.

The Olympiads paraded into the playground with their classmates, each class dressed in national costume and representing a different country. They marched round to their rousing national anthem. The classes then performed a dance from each of the represented countries.

The countries were represented as follows:
 •   Nursery - Jamaica
 •   Reception - Australia
 •   Year 1 - Russia
 •   Year 2 - U.S.A
 •   Year 3 - Scotland
 •   Year 4 - India
 •   Year 5 - South Africa
 •   Year 6 - Egypt

In addition, Poland was represented by our Polish children. England was represented by Jenny the dance coach and past pupils Caitlin and Molly.
