Each month we award the title of "Our Lady of Mount Carmel's Sports Person of the Month"

Bethany is the winner of our Sports Person of the Month for December.
Bethany has been a member of the school cross country team for four years since she started running for the team in Year 3. She has a natural talent for long distance running and has developed into an excellent runner.
She has participated in every race both at King Georges Catholic Competition and also at the Tameside competitions at East Cheshire Harriers. She is a highly valued member of the team and is always in the top four finishers from the school.
Bethany also enjoys many other sports in school and is willing and eager to be a team member whenever she gets the opportunity.
Ashley is the winner of our Sports Person of the Month for November.
Ashley is an excellent all round sports person participating in many different sports activities both in and out of school.
Ashley is very competitive and determined. He recently ran to a second place finish at the East Cheshire cross country races. Ashley shows a high degree of dedication and loyalty - after running cross country on Saturday mornings, he then goes on to play football for his local team. Ashley also plays football for the school team and is involved in tag rugby and athletics.
We are sure that Ashley will continue to develop and fine tune his excellent sporting skills.
We have selected two Sports Persons for October, as we faired so well in the recent cross country series!
Denver is the first joint-winner of our Sports Person of the Month for October.
Denver is a great athlete. She particularly excels at running, both sprinting and long distance. She participated in the recent Catholic Schools Cross Country series.
Denver is a Year 5 pupil so moved up to the double distance race in which she would have been competing against many Year 6 runners. Denver did not let this phase her but rather rose to the challenge finishing in the top three for every race and coming away with an overall 2nd place medal for the series. Her success is even more applauded as she ran with stitches across her left eye (from a recent accident).
Denver trains at every opportunity in school and also attends East Cheshire Harriers. She opitimises the Olympic value of excellence - "Giving the best of oneself on the field of play and progressing according to one's own objectives."
Abby is the other joint-winner of our Sports Person of the Month for October.
Abby a Year 4 pupil and is in her second year as a member of the school cross country team.
Abby has always had a personal ambition to finish in first place in a cross country race. She achieved this dream in the first race of the Catholic Schools Cross Country series held this autumn. Abby also achieved a 3rd place finish in the second race so she has had a great series and we are very proud of her achievements.
Abby is a very determined athlete and trains hard both in school and at East Cheshire Harriers. She also enjoys other sports including tag rugby and football.
Alex is the winner of our Sports Person of the Month for September.
Alex has been involved in many school sporting activities and competitions in the school.
He is part of the very successful athletics squad plus has been involved in many other winning teams such as cross country, football, tag rugby and cricket.
Alex has now developed a mature attitude in his sports and is becoming a great asset in helping to manage the athletics team, demonstrating strong captaincy skills.
Daniel is the winner of our Sports Person of the Month for July.
He has been captain of the very successful school athletics team this year. During July Daniel performed well in the Catholic Schools Athletics tournament as part of the relay squad that came home in first place. He also excelled in the Tameside Quad Kids Athletics competition this summer, totting up the highest score of any boy in Tameside - a fabulous achievement.
Daniel also represents the school in many other sports. He was part of the winning swimming team earlier in the year and more recently, he played a key role in the basketball team that won the Tameside competition. Daniel has also been a member of both the netball and volleyball teams along with football, cross country and tag rugby.
Outside of school Daniel especially enjoys playing football for his club in which he is team captain. He does basketball training and has more recently taken up a new sport - archery.
Molly is the winner of our Sports Person of the Month for June.
She has been an invaluable member of the very successful school cross country team this year, both in the Tameside and the Catholic Schools competitions, giving up many of her Saturday mornings to run in wintry weather. Molly was part of the winning team at the Catholic Schools Swimming Gala. Molly has also been involved in other school sports teams, including football, cricket and tag rugby,
Outside of school Molly especially enjoys horse riding and owns her own horse. She is also a member of a local swimming club.
Butchelle is the winner of our Sports Person of the Month for May.
She has been an invaluable member of the very successful school athletics team since the School Athletics Club was launched. During this time Butchelle has developed her abilities to a very high standard. She was part of the winning team at Off the Blocks, achieving a maximum of three individual gold medals for her sprinting and the high jump.
At the Aviva Sportshall County Finals Butchelle fared very well in all her events. She is currently the best high jumper and the fastest female sprinter in the school and she is also a mean long jumper.
Butchelle also represents the school in other sports. She was part of the mixed successful tag rugby team earlier in the year and more recently, she played a key role in the cheerleading team who fared very well this year and won the Tameside competition last year. Butchelle is also a member of the school cricket team who are hoping for success in the competition coming up in June.
Wojciech is the winner of our Sports Person of the Month for April.
He has been an invaluable member of the very successful school cross country team since Year 3. Wojciech has also been involved with the athletics team since the School Athletics Club was launched. During this time Wojciech has developed his abilities to a very high standard. He was part of the winning team at Off the Blocks, achieving two individual gold medals for his sprinting and the seated throw. At the Aviva Sportshall County Finals Wojciech fared very well in all his events.
Wojciech also represents the school in many other sports. He was part of the winning swimming team earlier in the year and more recently, he played a key role in the basketball team that won the Tameside competition. Last month Wojciech captained the netball team who got through to the finals and was part of the football team who came second. Wojciech also performed very well in the recent volleyball competition in which the team achieved a third position finish.
Outside of school Wojciech enjoys swimming and snorkelling, skiing at the Chill Factor and volleyball training at Russell Scott. He also loves cycling and riding quad bikes.
Adam is the winner of our Sports Person of the Month for March.
He has been involved with the athletics team since the School Athletics Club was launched. During this time Adam has literally come on in leaps and bounds. He is the fastest sprinter in the school, the best speed bounce and a can produce a formidable long jump and triple jump. He was part of the winning team at Off the Blocks, achieving three individual gold medals.
At the Aviva Sportshall County Finals Adam achieved first place in the speed bounce -53 bounces in 20 seconds. He also came first along with team mates in the mixed obstacle relay.
Adam also plays a crucial role in the outdoor athletics competitions.
Lucy is the winner of our Sports Person of the Month for February.
She represents the school in every sport and plays a vital role in all the teams. Lucy always gives her best and is a very determined competitor. She has helped all the school sports teams achieve great success over the past year.
She has been involved in cross country, athletics, swimming, basketball, volleyball, tag rugby and football. Lucy continues to be an indispensable member of the school sports squads.
Megan is the winner of our Sports Person of the Month for January.
She represents the school in every sport and plays a vital role in all the teams. Megan always gives her best and is a very determined competitor. She has helped all the school sports teams achieve great success over the past year.
She has been involved in cross country, athletics, swimming, basketball, volleyball, tag rugby and football. Megan continues to be an indispensable member of the school sports squads.
Megan is also involved in sports clubs outside of school including athletics at East Cheshire Harriers, volleyball at Fairfield High School and she is a member of a local swimming club.
