Athletics Club News 2009

Athletics Club's First Year

Our newly founded school athletics club has finished its first year. Throughout the year we have had over 80 pupils attending the club, with 50 attending virtually every week. The children have participated in a wide range of athletic activities and developed their skills to a good level.

At the beginning of the the school year we were able to buy lots of well-needed athletics equipment with all the Sainsburys Schools vouchers that were collected. The children especially benefitted from the reversa boards used in the indoor sprint events. We have been able to use the vouchers again this year for more athletics and sports equipment and for new cross country team kits.

Earlier in the year we were lucky enough to have athletics coaching for the children from Danny Kevan and we hope he will be able to work with our children again in the coming year.

You will see from earlier news that we have had a lot of success with both the athletics and cross country team during the past year.

Athlete of the Year 2009

Two pupils were awarded the title 'Athlete of the Year 2009' at the end of the school year - Lucy and Adam. Both these pupils attended the athletics club every week and gave much of their spare time during lunch hours to fine tune their skills and ensure they were able to compete to their very best. Their great effort and determination meant they were able to contribute highly to the athletics team successes throughout the year.

As the new school year starts again in September we are looking forward to continued success and much fun!
