Tameside Quad Kids Athletics Tournament 2010

The athletics team had a fabulous first place finish in their heat of the Quad Kids tournament which took place on Tuesday 6th July 2010.

There were other heats taking place throughout the week. The final results have now been published and we are absolutely delighted - our team achieved a massive points total of 1608 - over a hundred points clear of the next school in the competition! Not only were the team top in their own category of small schools but they also topped all the large schools making them top in Tameside!

Each member of the team had to compete in four different disciplines - a 75m sprint, a 600m run, a vortex throw and a long jump. Daniel and Megan were top of the charts with Daniel achieving 225 points and Megan 211 points. All the team performed beyond expectations so a huge well done to them - Daniel, Wojciech, Lucy, Adam, Shannon, Lewis, Joedanna, Paolo, Megan and Butchelle.

This final result of the athletics calendar means that the team have won every event they have entered at borough level this year. They have all trained hard throughout the year - at the after school athletics club on Mondays, at lunchtimes and quite a number of them have been training regularly at East Cheshire Harriers.

Many of the team have also competed in the longer cross country races that were held throughout the Autumn and Winter months. They bagged ten trophies during the season. This has meant that the team has set a new record in their success rate and one they can all be extremely proud of.

Mrs Lawrence would also like to say a huge thank you to all the parents, family and friends who have supported the athletics team throughout the year. Good luck to those in the team who are moving onto secondary school this year - always remember your fabulous achievements and we are sure you will continue to do well in your new school.

Tameside Catholic Schools Athletics Tournament 2010

The athletics team proved themselves to be unbeatable yet again in the annual Catholic Schools Athletics Tournament.

Sixteen of our children were involved in the competition with each being able to focus on their specialist event. Lucy sprinted to gold in the 75m sprint final with Butchelle hot on her tail in second place. Adam also achieved a second place finish in the sprint. Megan brought home a silver medal in the 600m run and Wojciech kept the medals coming with a second place finish in the long jump. Shannon had resounding success winning a gold medal in the throwing and Joedanna bagged herself a bronze medal in the long jump.

The relay team - Daniel, Butchelle, Adam, Lucy - topped the bill with the final display of prowess bringing home another gold medal for the team. Other members of the team also performed exceptionally well - Paolo, Madison, Rebecca, Denver, James, Alex, Lewis and Kieran.

The team were top in the small schools category into which they were entered and they also surpassed the large school category. They put on a superb demonstration of their athletic abilities which they have been finely tuning over the past two years.

"Off the Blocks" Tameside Athletics Tournament

At the end of February this year (2010) the school athletics team entered the Tameside "Off the Blocks" athletics tournament held at Copley Sports Centre.

Last year the team got through to the finals and came away with the third place trophy so this year they trained even harder in hope of getting through to the finals again.

They performed exceptionally well in the first round, clearly winning their heat and therefore getting through to the final. The team continued to train whenever they got the opportunity and as a result really excelled themselves by achieving the much sought after first place prize in the finals!

The team collected a huge haul of gold medals winning more the half of the events and coming second or third in the others. Adam and Butchelle both won three gold medals each as they came first in all three events they competed in. This fabulous success was a result of regular training and fabulous teamwork.

The team will now go on to represent Tameside at the Greater Manchester Aviva Sportshall Tournament to be held at Sports City in March.

Aviva Sportshall Greater Manchester Primary Schools County Finals Athletics Tournament

Our athletics team competed in the Aviva Sportshall Primary County Finals at Sport City in Manchester. This was the first time that the team had reached the county finals. They were representing Tameside along with Buckton Vale.

The competition was tougher as it involved the best schools throughout the whole of Greater Manchester. The team achieved ninth place out of twenty schools - a great result as we hoped to make the top ten. They also beat Buckton Vale making them the best athletics team in Tameside!

All the children performed very well with outstanding performances from Adam, Butchelle and Lucy. Adam was the best 'speed bouncer' in the competion - a fabulous achievement. Butchelle came second in the vertical jump. She also came third overall in the sprint relay with Lucy.
