In March we entered a team into the Tameside primary schools indoor athletics competition. The team has been training since September with Mrs Lawrence and Danny Kevan, a Tameside Athletics coach.
Their target was to reach the finals. The heats were held on 2nd March at Copley Sports Hall. Out of 18 events the team achieved 15 first place finishes, gaining 170 out of a potential 180 points. This is the first time we have reached the finals and we certainly did it in style.
The finals were held two weeks later. Our team is very young, consisting of mainly year 4 & 5 children and even a child from Year 3. We were up against the best in the finals, most of whom were Year 6. The team gave every ounce of energy and skill in each event, achieving several second place finishes and winning the last event - the 4 x 2 relay.
The children waited with bated breath as the points were totalled. They were over the moon when it was announced that we had achieved third place. They brought home a fabulous glass trophy and four gold medals - a fabulous achievement!!!
