Dear Parents,
Our topics in the Reception class until Christmas are: All about Me, Autumn and Food. Within these topics we will cover the following areas as part of the Foundation Stage curriculum.

Personal, social and emotional development

• Confidence and social skills such as turn taking.
• Activities to encourage independence, concentration.

Religion

• Learning the Sign of the Cross.
• How God's family help each other to be happy at home, at school and in the playground.
• God's love and care for everyone in the world and exploring how loving adults keep children safe.

Language and Literacy

• Development of letter recognition, recall and formation.
• Development of reading skills and an enjoyment of books through individual and group reading, whole class.
• Activities using 'big books' and through regular practise with National Literacy Strategy key words.
• Regular opportunities to practise emergent writing.

Numeracy

• Reading, writing ordering and counting numbers to 10.
• Sorting and matching.
• Recognition of two dimensional shapes.
• Development of mathematical language e.g. more/less, bigger/smaller.

Knowledge and understanding of the world

• Our school and routines.
• Family and community celebrations e.g. birthdays, harvest and Christmas.
• Myself and family. Autumn. Food

Creative Development

• Collage, Painting and printing using a variety of mediums.
• Christmas cards and calendars.

Physical development

• Using large play equipment (climbing frame).
• Catching, Gymnastics, Awareness of space.

P.E. will be on Wednesday afternoon and children should come dressed in P.E. kit.

Please ensure all clothing has your child's name on and avoid laces unless your child can tie their own.

Library

Every Thursday I will be given the opportunity to choose a book from the school library for me to take home. I need to return my library folder every Thursday.

If you have any concerns at all do not hesitate to come and see me, preferably after school. I hope your child will have a very happy and successful time in the Reception class.
