Discipline: Our loving care and concern for each child means our children are given clear, firm expectations about their behaviour. When children need to be corrected we don't judge incidents out of proportion, and any sanctions don't rob children of their dignity. Children are not labelled, there are no lasting grudges, our children know wrongs can be redressed. In our school, authority is not so much used to control, but to enable people to reach their potential. We encourage good behaviour through clear classroom rules that are agreed with the children, and rewards such as Certificates, stickers, mention in assembly, gaining points, or gaining the chance to choose a treat. If we have a concern about your child's behaviour, we will contact you straight away. |
Special Educational Needs: We recognise that each child is uniquely created by God. So they can make appropriate progress, children may require individual help occasionally. We may decide this help is necessary as a result of parents bringing concerns to our attention, or our concerns in school, or possibly following reading tests or other tests in school. We will inform you about the help we are giving and arrange to meet at a later date to review progress. If your child requires an increasing amount of classwork to be tailored to their individual needs, then our Special Needs Co-ordinator, Miss McIntyre, and the class teacher will devise an individual plan for your child. We may also work with you to arrange more help if necessary. |
Religious Education: In Religious Education children explore questions about life, dignity and purpose, developing an understanding of both the Catholic faith and other faith traditions. The school follows the Salford Diocesan "Guidelines for Religious Education". Our acts of worship and R.E. lessons are important to our aim of enabling our children to grow in faith. If as a parent you wish to assert your right to withdraw your child from Religious Education or worship, either in whole or in part, see Mr.Brown. |
Language and Literacy: We aim for children to develop their ability to use and understand language. We want our children to become confident and effective readers, able to read for learning and pleasure. We give the children the chance to write a variety of styles for different purposes. We follow the National Literacy Strategy and have regular lessons in reading skills, handwriting, grammar and spelling, and also plan for a clear development of speaking and listening skills. |
Mathematics: We aim to encourage a positive attitude to Mathematics and foster confidence and enjoyment. We hope children see the relevance of Mathematics, knowing when to apply their understanding and how to use a calculator. Children follow the National Numeracy Strategy, helping them to acquire a sound understanding of ideas through practical work, and have regular practice of mental skills to ensure a quick recall of basic facts such as tables and number bonds. |
Other Subjects: As well as the subjects outlined above, we teach the children Science, Information and Communications Technology, History, Geography, Technology, Music, Art and P.E. and aim to offer children a broad, balanced curriculum. |
