In October Year 4 visited the Setantii Museum in Ashton to see the WW2 Exhibitions. The visit was the culmination of study that the class had been engaged in for several weeks.
They had been learning about World War 2 as part of their literacy curriculum looking at historical fiction. Their particular focus was on the evacuees and the 'Home Front'.
They had gained lots of knowledge through guided reading sessions, creating WW2 posters and watching the film 'Mr. Tom'. The children performed a play which helped them to put themselves in the shoes of the evacuees.
They also had access to lots of artefacts from this period of history. The class produced some fine pieces of story writing revealing the experiences and feelings of a WW2 evacuee.
On the day of the visit the class had dressed up as children from the 1940s. They also had gas mask boxes that they had made previously.
During their tour round the museum they were able to recap on everything they had learnt plus acquire lots of other interesting fact and information.
