Healthy Eating and Hierogyphics

On Friday 4th July, the children of Year Three had an educational day out with a difference!

In the morning they went to the Portland Basin Museum for a lesson on keeping healthy. The class learnt about the different food groups and wore pedometres to see how far they walked in the museum.

The children also did some line dancing which everyone enjoyed to a "cow boy/girl" theme. Then everyone took part in various fun games which help to keep them healthy. This was followed by a look around the museum and lunch outside on the picnic benches.

It was a lovely sunny day. Some children managed to sketch a canal boat which was moored at the wharf.

In the afternooon Year 3 moved on to Cheetam's Art Gallery in Stalybridge where they continued their fun. At the Art Gallery they learnt about the Ancient Egyptians. They looked at modern symbols and then at Egyptian hierogyphics.

They then made canopic jars - like the jars that the ancient Egyptians would place the body parts of a dead person before embalming their body to create a mummy.

The children had a very busy and exciting day. Their hands-on experiences really gave them a day to remember!!
