England may have been knocked out of the Football World Cup in an earlier round but the children of Our Lady's still had a local hero to cheer for in the Final!
Cheering for Italy!
The children have been celebrating Italy's win over France in the final of the competition.
Why Italy? Because one member of the winning Italian team, Simone Perrotta, was born in Ashton and attended St Ann's RC Primary School, now Our Lady of Mount Carmel School.
Children came to school dressed in the Italian national colours and created their own Venetian masks to dance with at a disco. They even joined in singing the chorus of 'O Sole Mio' in Italian!
Mr Brown treated everyone to Italian ice-cream from the ice-cream van!
Mr Brown commented: "It's amazing to think that someone who has played in a World Cup final has been a part of our school! It's certainly brought a personal touch to the World Cup for us."
Former headteacher of St Ann's, Mr Brierley, remembered the young Simone's aptitude for football: "He always stayed on his feet and had a great eye for goal at an age when most pupils don't even know which way to shoot."
