News: Time Capsule Project

Pupils from Year 3 took part in the Time Capsule Project at Ashton Town Hall on 7th May 2008.

Four pupils, Munir, Mpumelelo, Niamh and Dario were selected to take part in this historic project to bury a capsule under the new Market Hall.

Ian Kelly, Tameside's museum manager, talked about the Market's past and showed the children a capsule.

The children then worked together and with children form another school to come up with items for the capsule that would tell future generations something important about society and the way we live today.

Mpumelelo, speaking through the microphone, explained to evertone why she thought they should put a May 2008 Tameside Advertiser into the capsule. Dario had a chance to persuade everyone that a sticker set and a book with a Manchester United shirt would be an excellent choice.

Five children were chosen to be present at the burial of the capsule and Munir was chosen to be one of those present when the capsule is unveiled in 50 years time!
