St Joseph Penny Collection

Mr and Mrs McDonald visit our school

On Ash Wednesday Mr and Mrs McDonald from the Catholic Rescue Society came to the school assembly.

They told us how all the money raised for the St. Joseph Penny collection goes to help children and their families in need (what ever their beliefs or faith) in the Diocese of Salford.

The society in recent years has seen a big decline in the funds received. When the St. Joseph Penny collection began, one penny was worth the equivalent of ten pounds at today's prices! The children thought they need to change the name because a penny buys nothing today, maybe to St Joseph Collection?

So in a big effort to beat the usual £80 a year our school sends, each class is having a competition and each Friday in Lent is a non-uniform day. So far we have raised £200 pounds. Fantastic news!

Any families under going difficulties or are in need can contact the Catholic Rescue Society on 0161 445 7741.
