Our Lady of Mount Carmel Primary School, Ashton under Lyne

Speedway Spectacular

In July of this year the whole school was treated to a presentation by Belle Vue Speedway, Manchester.

A few months earlier our school had scooped a top award at the Tameside School Sports Awards. We won and received a glass trophy for the "Most Outstanding Success in Competitive Sport" in primary schools.

As part of the prize we received a visit from the Belle Vue Aces Speedway Team.

Ged Blake, the team's community and schools coordinator, gave a presentation on the speedway team. He brought one of their fabulous racing motorbikes and showed us video clips of some of the races held at Belle Vue.

Ged talked about the history of the speedway team and how they have become world famous. He provided insight into racing strategies and the children had the opportunity to predict who they thought would win each in each of the races they watched. Everyone found this very exciting and the hall was filled with cheers!

It was a fabulous fun filled afternoon and the children can't wait to visit the speedway and experience the races for real!
