Our Lady of Mount Carmel School Badge Our Lady of Mount Carmel RC Primary School - Ashton under Lyne
In May Year 5 visited Ash Road Recycling Centre in Droylsden as part of their geography topic. They went there to find out about waste and recycling in Tameside.

The children were shown all the machines that sort out materials and compress them. They watched a film about waste and recycling.

They were given a souvenir of their visit to remind them of the importance of recycling!

The girls watch a lorry unloading all the plastic which has been collected from houses around Tameside.

This machine separates cans from plastic and aluminium cans from steel.

The aluminium cans are then crushed into bales.

The children were shown all the different coloured bins used in Tameside.

The children were shown all the household waste.

'The Tip' - these things will not be recycled, but instead will be taken to a landfill site.

This fleece has been made out of recycled plastic.

We were all given a small green bin to take away with us.
