On January 30th, 2006, children in Year 5 celebrated Chinese New Yaer.

In their literacy work, the children have been learning about the Willow Pattern Plate. A chinese myth about a mandarin's daughter Koong-se and a poor
shepherd boy called Chang, who fall in love. They are parted by her angry father, but the lovers are reunited and escape with the help of a Chinese goddess.

To tie in with their work, the class decided to hold a chinese banquet. They had lots of
delicious food - straight from China Town - vegetable spring rolls, prawn toast,
prawn crackers, noodles and even crispy seaweed, which the children loved,
despite their reservations. To finish off the children had a fortune cookie and
were amazed by their predictions.

Afterwards children made lots of chinese crafts - a dragon, a lantern, a willow
pattern plate and they even had to write a chinese happy new year message.
