We had a real boost to our school travel plan with the recent 20 mph speed restriction that Tameside Council have agreed to put in place near our school. This restriction forms part of the governments 'Think' campaign which aims to vastly reduce road accidents and casualties.
Tameside Council are introducing the speed limit around local primary schools in a bid to increase the awareness of the need to kill speed in residential areas. This has been one of our aims in our School Travel Plan so we are highly delighted with the move.
To increase children's awareness of the strategy, the council launched a competition in which children had the opportunity to design the 20 mph sign that would be used.
Our school winner was Dominique who was presented with a £20 book prize by traffic councillor John Lyssejko. Councillors Peter Robinson, Margaret Sidebottom and Bill Fairfoul attended the presentation which took place in front of the whole school.
We are very proud of Dominique's fabulous design and look forward to seeing it on display and slowing the local traffic, making the journey to school a much safer affair.
