•  Encourage children to eat five portions of fruit and vegetables every day.

•  Discourage children from eating food/drinks that have high sugar content, in between meals. It is much better to have these as part of a main meal.

•  Encourage children to eat healthy snacks at school and at home.

You could encourage your child to use our Healthy Tuck Shop in school. Find out more.

If you don't have time for breakfast at home, you could send your child to our Breakfast Club.

We have recently reviewed the Breakfast Club provision to ensure it meets the national health guidelines.

According to the Sodexho School Meals and Lifestyle survey 2005, 8% of children have nothing to eat before school, and this rises to 12% for 15-16 year olds and 17% for 15-16 year old girls. Breakfast clubs can help to change these statistics and give children a healthier start to their day.

The Breakfast Club runs every day from 8.00 a.m. until school begins. Children are given a choice of cereal, toast, fruit and a drink. The cost is £3.00 per day and you don't need to book in advance - you can simply turn up on any day.

Although, it is always great to share sweets and lollies at this special time, it's not so great for your child's teeth!

Instead of sweets why don't you consider one of these alternatives, which are much healthier and have a more lasting appeal:
•  Stationery
•  Donate a book to the class library
•  Small toys
