Our Lady of Mount Carmel Primary School, Ashton under Lyne

Headteacher's Page

Recently I have really enjoyed our two nativities from Foundation Stage and Years 1 and 2. The children have beautifully presented the story of Jesus coming into our world in song, drama and dance. It gave me immense pleasure to see our children performing so confidently and enthusiastically. As ever I am so grateful for the time, effort and patience shown by the teaching staff to give our children such a wonderful opportunity. The teachers have set high expectations for the children and our talented pupils have risen to this challenge.

I look back over the term and recall a notable sporting achievement when all of our teams won their events in the Catholic Schools' Cross Country races. We see all our sports teams as being part of one Our Lady of Mount Carmel 'club' and it is great to witness this sense of working together.

I would also like to mention the trips that children have enjoyed, visiting places such as Stockport Air Raid Shelters, or going to watch 'A Midsummer Night's dream'. We are lucky to have teachers who are prepared to organise such memorable experiences for our pupils and for parents who support and appreciate their commitment.

We have received our data from OFSTED and our 2010 'value added' score (which best measures the 'school effect') placed us in the the top 5% of schools nationally. Since 2007 our results have remained in the top 10% of schools nationally.

I am sure you will share my immense pride at how well everyone's individual contribution comes together to enables our school to continue to achieve and improve.

My best wishes to you all for a happy and holy Christmas.
