In September we had our Eco-Week where the whole school looked at ways of saving our environment.
During our Eco Assembly the whole school celebrated all the wonderful things we do in school which makes our school and Eco-School.
The assembly raised awareness of ecological issues, and each year group performed and showed what they had learnt during the week.
Here are some of the things we did during Eco-Week....
[Foundation - Years 1 & 2 - Year 3 - Year 4 - Year 5 - Year 6]
During Eco Week Nursery and Reception children learnt how to Reduce Reuse and Recycle, they made shakers by decorating plastic milk bottles and filling them with rice and lentils.
During the Eco Assembly they shook their shakers and sang two songs about recycling.
The Year 6 'Bin Busters' came to the classroom to show the children the right bin to use for paper, compost and plastic.
Year 1 and 2 learnt about the work of the charity, Sightsavers. They gave a fantastic presentation to the school during the Eco Assembly which included lots of information, singing and dancing.
They also set-up a collection box to recycle old spectacles.
During Eco-Week Year 3 made bird cake, to be placed around the school grounds.
They also designed a bird bath made from old plant pots and a dustbin lid.
The children showed us the finished bird bath and their fabulous designs during the Eco Assembly. The bird bath will be placed in the wildlife garden.
During Eco Week Year4 worked hard learning about the rainforest and what can be done to prevent it from becoming extinct.
They decided to join Prince Charles's Rainforest Project and so became Rainforest Apprentices. During their time in Year 4 they will be completing various questa and forwarding examples of their work to the Project. This will enable them to progress through the layers of the rainforest.
One of their quests involves telling people about the rainforest - they made a start on this during Eco Week by telling the while school important information and singing them a song - all about how important it is to save the rainforest and how we can help.
Year 5 children had a re-cycled clothing and fashion show. All the clothes were first designed by the children then produced using lots of different types of materials including, plastic bags, boxes and old clothes.
The children modelled their designs just like real catwalk models, they were fantastic!
Year 6's arrival at the Eco Assembly was definitely a show stopper!
They arrived dressed as 'Bin Busters' and danced and sang encouraging the whole school to join in with them.
During Eco Week the children had secretly been making new bins for every classroom and showed them to the school, then reminded the children what each bin was used for i.e. Paper, plastic or compost.
